Myrtle Beach Sc has a rich and interesting history. The beautiful beaches and large white oak trees first attracted the Waccamaaw and Winyah Indians that inhabited the land. But in the 18th Century Myrtle Beach Sc began to attract another type of inhabitant, pirates.
Pirates found the waters of the Atlantic to be irresistible for their wild reveling and soon began to congregate close to the area known today as Myrtle Beach Sc. One of the most famous legends of all time had his beginning in the waters off of Myrtle Beach Sc, “Blackbeard” himself. Another infamous pirate of the Myrtle Beach Sc area was “Captain Kidd”, in fact some treasure hunters still search for the treasure supposedly buried near Murells Inlet by Captain Kidd.
In the late 1800’s a man by the name of F.G. Burroughs noticed the beauty and potential of Myrtle Beach Sc and invested in 80,000 acres of coastline.
